The CUA Tower Website

I’ve recently worked on updating the website for The Tower Newspaper @ The Catholic University of America. There old system used something known as College Publisher, which is basically a student newspaper web management system run by MTV, so essentially Viacom. Unfortunetely, this platform does not allow for much customization and the customization it does requires learning a whole new web language that many are unfamiliar with. So, we decided to go with the well-known web management system known as Wordpress. Free and extremely customizable are some of the benefits of this platform and more importantly it’s easy for the web-novice to update and manage the system once setup.

We looked through hundreds of Wordpress themes (customizable designs) and finally stumbled upon one by Brian Gardner Media known as the Revolution News Theme. The base design included most of the functions we wanted to see within the website and while there was a lot of customization the end product finally came out after a few weeks of work.

We’re still working on getting all of the archives from the past 8 years uploaded onto the new website, but that should be done within a few weeks. You can view the website here and screenshots are posted below.

The Pope at CUA Blog

I’ve started a new project with The Tower Newspaper @ The Catholic University of America. It’s a blog about the upcoming 2008 Papal Visit to the United States and CUA. Check it out @ http://www.popeatcua.com. There should be some good photography, since we’ve got media credentials to cover the Arrival at Andrews Air Force Base, the visit to the Basilica, the Mass at National’s Park, and the speech at Catholic University!
