Working out a deal with Catholic University, the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals football team have been practicing at CUA’s Cardinal Stadium since their game against the Washington Redskins last Sunday. The professional football team, using both the Athletic Center and the football field, are preparing for their game against the New York Jets this upcoming weekend.

Today, members of the CUA Cardinal’s Football Team were able to meet members of the Arizona team.

Pictures from the Sky – The Basilica

September 19, 2008 by Chase McAlpine · Leave a Comment

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to go take pictures from the top of the Knights of Columbus Tower, of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, for the CUA Yearbook. The Basilica rising up 32 floors or 329 feet is considered the tallest building and the 2nd tallest structure in Washington, DC. The Washington Monument is the tallest structure, but can not be considered a building, as it doesn’t have successive floors that can be occupied.

The pictures did not come out as good as I would have liked, especially the far away shots, such as the Capital and the Washington Monument. It was very hazy the day I went up, but you take what you can get. I’ll be going up again next week to take pictures at sunset/nighttime, so hopefully I’ll be able to get some good shots then. I’ve included some of the pictures I took from the top, as well as some from the trip up and back down the tower.

FRC Actions Annual Value Voters Summit in DC

The Family Research Council is holding it’s annual Value Voters Summit at the Washington Hilton in DC this weekend. I was able to catch some of today’s speakers including Lou Dobbs, Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, Congresswomen Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), as well as former Washington Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs. Numerous other speakers are lined up throughout the day and I’ll be catching Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney when he speaks tonight around 7pm.

The Summit has more speakers lined up throughout weekend along with workshops and an exhibition hall dedicated to pro-family and conservative groups such as Americans for Tax Reform and Pro-Life Americans. They also have some satirical vendors selling items such as “Obama Waffles”.

I’ve included some pictures from today and I’ll update later with more from Romney’s speech. Check out the Valued Voters Summit Website here.

About 500 CUA students gathered on the front lawn of the Pryzbyla Center to honor the lives lost 7 years ago on 9/11/2001.

“After year 5, I thought interest would fade, obviously it didn’t. When we didn’t plan anything that year, they did it themselves, in the back of Spellman Hall on the Rugby practice field,. There is always a significant crowd.” — Rev. Bob Schlageter (Read More).

“‘It’s a day we try not to remember, but it’s a day we will never forget,’ said Joe St. George, chairman of the College Democrats.” — From The Tower Newspaper at CUA.
